Teaching Around the World
Preparing Students Worldwide for Public and Private Sector Leadership
Taught course for six years from 2012-2017 at Turkey's leading business school - Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey
Across 20 countries on five continents, Mark Kennedy has taught and lectured on non-market strategy, emphasizing the distinction between shapeholders—such as political leaders, regulators, media, and activists—and traditional stakeholders. Unlike stakeholders, who have a direct interest in an organization’s success, shapeholders may lack such a stake yet wield powerful influence over its risks and opportunities. Kennedy’s Shapeholders framework has been featured in classrooms from Cambridge to Tokyo, NYU to Istanbul, shaping leadership education for corporate, civic, and policy audiences alike. This global teaching portfolio complements his scholarship in geoeconomic statecraft, equipping future leaders to align institutional strategy with both societal and global purpose.
Across all classrooms, I’ve emphasized respectful dialogue, critical thinking, and appreciation for varied cultural perspectives—building a welcoming environment where students from all backgrounds can engage with global complexity.
